MANDELIC ACID 45% SERUM
Mandelic acid is great for all skin tones and has some unique advantages for ethnic skin because of its non-irritating action. In ethnic skin tones, the risk of hyperpigmentation is magnified because there’s more eumelanin in the skin. The more eumelanin, the more melanocytes there are to react to skin injury or irritation and trigger excess pigmentation. Consequently, ethnic skin needs to be treated less aggressively than lighter skin types. Gentle mandelic acid fits this requirement perfectly. Its large molecular structure slows its absorption into the top layers of skin, so it doesn’t cause irritation that can trigger an inflammatory response. An acid like glycolic has a small molecular structure so it penetrates the skin quickly. Great for stimulating rapid skin peeling, not so great for sensitive skin.
Source Post: ‘How Does Skin Bleach Work’
Mandelic acid’s gentle action doesn’t make it any less effective then other chemical peels. It just makes it a little slower. Plus, mandelic acid gets a potency boost from another source: its ability to inhibit melanin. Like other acids, mandelic’s micro-exfoliating properties help lift excess pigment from the surface of skin. But unlike other acids, mandelic works in the deeper layers of skin to inhibit melanin production. So what it might lack in speed, it makes up for in depth. For treating hyperpigmentation & discoloration, no acid can match mandelic’s skin lightening ability.
But that’s not all there is to the magic of mandelic. I like to call mandelic acid the ‘trifecta acid’ because it targets three of the top trouble areas: acne aging & hyperpigmentation. In addition to its melanin-inhibiting and micro-exfoliating properties, mandelic acid is an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory. It clears dead skin cells, kills bacteria, reduces redness and inflammation, and diminishes the appearance of acne scars. Mandelic acid has benefits for aging skin as well. It accelerates cell renewal making skin appear firmer, and smoother. At the same time, mandelic acid promotes collagen production to increase skin’s elasticity and youthful appearance.

HOW DOES IT LIGHTEN SKIN?
Mandelic Acid whitens skin in two ways. It inhibits the melanin-producing enzyme tyrosinase to block pigment from forming and helps lift surface pigment through exfoliation. Its large molecular structure slows absorption into the skin, making it the gentlest of the AHAs. It also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to fight acne. Mandelic acid is a particularly good choice for skin of color or sensitive types because of its non-irritating activity.
