WHAT IS ANESTEN?
Anesten (Lidocaine 10.56%) is used to numb the skin before dermatological procedures such as needle injections, electrolysis, tattooing, body piercing, laser tattoo removal, laser hair removal, body waxing, etc. Lidocaine numbing creams can be purchased from your local over-the-counter-pharmacy, like Walgreens or CVS. According to the “Journal of Drugs In Dermatology,” when used in small amounts and low concentrations over small areas of the body, it is considered safe. It can cause dangerous side effects when used in higher concentrations over larger body areas. After application, lidocaine cream should be washed off the hands completely and t should never be applied to broken skin.

SIDE EFFECTS
Pain-relieving creams, such as lidocaine, work by numbing the nerve cells in the skin. If the skin becomes too numb to feel any pain whatsoever, there is the danger of receiving a serious burn from a laser or hot wax. Therefore you need to make sure your spa technician doing your procedure is experienced in the service you’re getting; is a licensed professional; and knows who knows how to use lidocaine cream and other equipment safely. The less serious side effects of using lidocaine cream are mainly dermatological and include redness, itching, burning and swelling in the area where it has been applied. If experiencing any of these side effects occur, discontinue the use of lidocaine cream and wash off the area completely. As with any OTC product, you may experience side-effects when using on your skin. Talk with your doctor if you have any concerns prior to using an over-the-counter numbing creams. Overall, topical anesthesia tends to be very safe. Minor problems might include discoloration of the skin at the application site or an uncomfortable feeling of numbness that lasts longer than expected. Repeated use of a topical anesthetic on a damaged eye surface may interfere with the normal healing process.

PRECAUTIONS
should be used only on intact skin to avoid rapid absorption into the body, do not apply to open gashes/wounds or bleeding wounds. Always carefully read the label and heed all directions and cautions. If you usually have allergies to these type of numbing creams, seek the advice of physician or a qualified health care practitioner prior to using any lidocaine numbing cream.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Successful use of a topical anesthetic produces temporary loss of sensation in the area where it is applied. Anesten Topical lidocaine cream produces numbness by inhibiting/ blocking conduction of pain signals at the peripheral nerves. The following affects takes place after applying Anesten Numbing Cream:

15 – 45 minutes: The onset of numbness begins at this point and is starting to spread out in the target area.
45 – 60 minutes: The numbness has infiltrated the entire target area. The loss of sensation in the superficial layer prevents any feeling of pain or discomfort.
60 – 110 minutes: At it’s peak of numbing cream effect. Any pain, itch or discomfort should not be felt because the efficacy is at its highest.
110 – 190 minutes: The duration of maximum numbing cream effect is approximately sustained up to this point.
190 – 210 minutes: The numbing effect will gradually diminish. Re-application is highly recommended for another extended period of time.
